Voigtlander lens factor - VL 90mm f3.5 Macro

No one really knows that Voigtlander Apo Lanthar series would be this popular. Nowadays, any of the four in Apo Lanthar series would be well worth more than 700 US dollars.

VL 90mm f3.5 macro is a great close up lens. Not that it is sharper than any other third party macro lenses, but because this particular lens from Voigtlander company has that "popping" look to its image rendering. The bokeh are incredibly smooth and creamy, not distracting to take away the focus of interest.

It is always quite interesting to know that Voigtlander has many lenses in PK mount. At the same time, Pentax lenses lack the lustre of the bokeh performance that is present in VL series.

This lens rendered me power to capture ordinary thing with a funky twist. The best thing about it is that my lens value is going up in value too

Fa 31mm ltd: does it matter whether it is made in vietnam or Japan?

Well, this question has popped up several times in various fora.

To me, who cares?

The quality control of Fa limited series has suffered greatly for the past few years due to the high demand and consumer expectation.

A lot of criticism derived from poor unsharp images taken by vietnamese counterparts. There were rumours of decentering and loose in-barrel elements etc. My take on this is that it is almost impossible to dicern whether the problem comes from backfocusing of Fa 31mm ltd or loosely assembled optics.

The best thing to do is avoiding pixel peeping. Do the shots to see whether there is that popping feel which is what Fa lenses are famous of. Lacking that luster is probably going to be a flaw in the design myself.

Thai Squid by Voigtlander 40mm f2 SL II

Speaking of thai cooking, there is always a bit of spice, chilli and sourness. The combination of these used to irritate me to a degree.
As time goes on, I am starting to accept this type of cooking. Just stimulating my taste buds and making me feel a bit different for the day passing by.
Voigtlander 40mm f2 SL seems to be out of favour in our recent second hand market. Still, Stephen Gandy from Camera Quest still sold them for 380 US dollars. Funny that this lens never had the hype like VL Nokton 58mm had gone through... Still, this lens is light, easy to carry and it is born to be a food photo lens.
Another day has passed and I would have gained even more weight... Sad for me that I need to lose more weight...

Jthommo

Jthommo has always been an active poster in pentax section of DPReview. His work primarily focuses on photojournalism which is always interesting to view.

His recent thread on DPreview renewed my interest to read pentax photo forums again as he lends a touch of humour to the boring repetition of whinners seen in that section. However, these forums tend to dictate market mood towards a brand.

Dairy farm by Pentax Da* 200mm f2.8 SDM

I bought this lens by sheer luck where the lens only costs 1000 AUS dollars. The lens is soooo light and its ability to render colour is impeccable.

I found the focusing relatively fast and accurate comparing to Fa* predecessor. The fringeing problem in Fa* counterpart is not an issue in this copy I have.

This is an image from West Gibbsland where the farms feed the cows.

Bush fire aftermath by Pentax Da 15mm f4 limited

This is a scene 1 year after the devastating bush fire. Wilson prom looks sooo desolate and most roads are blocked!
My trip in the region is rather a pleasant one with this lovely small da 15mm limited. Compact and reliable colour rendering. What a unique scenery

Demonic art by Pentax Da 15mm f4 limited

Wall mural can be a great way to take a peek of the society we live in. The wall graphics here can be a true reflection of one's mental state.
Sharp image from this lens with such a good contrast and colour. Yet, the lens is very light in deed!

Ants by Voigtlander 125mm f2.5 macro Apo Lanthar SLII

Ants are often crawling very fast. The fact is that using a manual focus macro lens to capture these critters rather difficult.
You can see the images turn out a very narrow depth of field with such a great revealing detail
